The Republican Party of Jefferson Parish endorsed candidates for the primary election on the November 6th ballot at its endorsement meeting held July 30, 2018. After hearing presentations from candidates and their answers to questions from the members, the committee made the following endorsements:

Secretary of State – A.G. Crowe

U.S. Representative 1st Congressional District – Steve Scalise

Associate Justice Supreme Court, 1st Supreme Court District – Greg Guidry

Judge Juvenile Court, Section B – Amanda Calogero

Member of School Board District 1 – Gerard LeBlanc

Member of School Board District 2 – Eddie J. Boudreaux, Jr.

Member of School Board District 3 – Tiffany Higgins Kuhn

Member of School Board District 4 – “Clay” Moise

Polly Thomas, Chair of the Jefferson Republican Parish Executive Committee, said “The members believe that these candidates embody Republican principles of compassion, adherence to the Constitution, and fiscal conservatism. We urge voters to cast their votes for these candidates on November 6 or during the early voting period October 23 through October 30.” The endorsement committee is composed of elected members of the Jefferson Republican Parish Executive Committee, elected members of the Republican State Central Committee who reside in Jefferson Parish, the Presidents of the Republican Women’s Clubs of Jefferson Parish, and Republican elected officials who reside in Jefferson Parish.

The Republican Party of Jefferson Parish met on October 19, 2016 and passed the following motion:

“Mike Yenni, the Parish President of Jefferson Parish, has admitted to inappropriate texting with a 17 year old.  The Jefferson Parish Executive Committee – Republican requests that Mr. Yenni immediately resign from his leadership position as Parish President. The behavior of Mr. Yenni has affected his ability to govern our parish effectively.  Furthermore, Mr. Yenni has been barred from visiting any Parish or Parochial Schools events, he has lost the support of the majority of leaders in the parish, and he has tarnished the reputation of our parish and party.”
